LINCOLN, Neb. (August 26, 2011) 聙聯 The nation聙聶s top Tire Rack庐 SCCA ProSolo drivers will gather at the Lincoln (Neb.) Airpark this weekend, August 27 聙聯 28, for the Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo Finale and one final shot at the Gumout Super Challenge season-long title. Unlike traditional SCCA Solo events, ProSolo combines the drag racing with the skill of Solo competition, with competitors starting from a 聙聹Christmas Tree聙聺 and running on side-by-side, mirror image autocross courses. Class competition sets the grid for a bracket-style, indexed elimination tournament, culminating with the Gumout Super Challenge champion. Points have been acquired all season long toward the Gumout Super Challenge. With 45 points available for a win at the ProSolo finale, a number of drivers are still in contention. The favorite to take the Challenge Cup this season may be the same driver who earned the title a year ago. Andy Hollis, from Austin, Texas, leads the point standings with 95 points scored in his best two scoring challenges from the first three events he entered during the season. Hollis won in his Super Stock GRM/AST/PowerCurve/Soulspeed/JCAutoSpec Honda Civic Si at Mineral Wells and at Packwood to hold the lead. Hollis is the 2006 and 2010 overall ProSolo Champion. Hollis聙聶 two closest competitors are a pair of drivers who are searching for their first overall title. Second in points after a win in Colorado and a third-place finish at the Spring event in Lincoln is Matt McCabe. The Omaha, Neb. resident is just eight points behind Hollis after a successful season behind the wheel of his C Street Prepared-class 949 Racing/ProEFI/Meyers Auto Mazda Miata. D Stock competitor James Wilson is third in points, driving a Gillman Subaru/CamSportsTexas.com Subaru WRX. The Houston-native won at Blytheville this season. 2009 Champion Sam Strano, from Brookville, Pa., is currently fourth in the Championship hunt. His E Street Prepared StranoParts Ford Mustang GT is the favorite to win in class, and once in the Gumout Super Challenge could run the table like he did this season in Oscoda. Currently fifth in the battle is Matt Murray, of Westport, Conn. Driving a Hoosier Racing Tire BMW 318i in H Stock, Murray聙聶s win this year came in the shadow of New Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey. With 56 points available at the Tire Rack ProSolo Finale and up to 12 bonus points available based on qualifying position, 41 drivers remain mathematically eligible to take the win. Class competition begins on Saturday morning and runs through Sunday afternoon at the Lincoln Airpark. On Sunday afternoon, brackets will be set and elimination runs will begin, culminating with the new champion being honored at Sunday night聙聶s awards banquet.
