ROMULUS, N.Y. (July 29, 2008) 聙聯 Gregory Hahn, of Saint Augustine, Fla., claimed his first Hawk Super Challenge win at the Tire Rack庐 SCCA Finger Lakes ProSolo, where mother nature cooperated, but the Christmas tree did not.Sandwiched between Seneca Lake and Cayuga Lake, Romulus, N.Y., and the Seneca Army Depot hosted the latest Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo round. A single-course event, the Finger Lakes ProSolo didn聙聶t lack any of the fun of a traditional double-course ProSolo, as competitors got nine shots at Corey Kuhns聙聶 long, twisty course, and in-turn, received more on-course time than usual. What was lacking in Romulus was the start-line Christmas tree, which began to malfunction on Friday evening and was scrapped all together on Saturday morning. While the challenge of the tree was gone, the event proceeded to run smoothly. That includes the weather, because although severe storms did plague the area all weekend, they were kind enough to bypass the Seneca Army Depot. Only briefly on Saturday did enough water hit the pavement to impact run times. The scene for the Hawk Super Challenge was eerily similar to last year聙聶s, as two Hondas were pitted against each other in the final elimination round. Hahn聙聶s A Stock winning Honda S2000 faced the RedShift/Hondata/ASR/Import Auto Honda Civic of Christopher Travis, from Carmel, N.Y. Hahn managed to find 0.2-second more out of his S2000 than he did in his previous best two runs to take his first-ever Challenge win and claim the Honda Tuner Challenge award as well. Unfamiliar with the tricks to opening a champagne bottle, poor Hahn was quickly drenched by his fellow Challenge winners at the awards presentation.Hahn and Travis faced off again for the Honda Hot Shoe award, where Travis got sweet revenge, to the tune of $250, by knocking off Hahn. In the ChaseCam Bonus Challenge, Brad Johnson, of Spencerport, N.Y., took on Garrison Moseley, of Milford, Pa., with Moseley聙聶s Street Touring庐 S Subaru Impreza taking the win over Johnson聙聶s E Stock Stranoparts.com Toyota MR2.The Ladies Challenge ended in a shootout between Ladies Class 1 winner Diana Carris, of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., and Ladies Class 2 winner, Diane Johnson, of Glen Allen, Pa. Driving an A Street Prepared Chevrolet Corvette, Johnson claimed her second Ladies Challenge victory of the season over Carris聙聶 H Stock Holunfie Mini Cooper.Just as Hahn earned his first Challenge win, many drivers earned their first class wins at the Finger Lakes ProSolo. After a near miss at the DC ProSolo, Brian Conners, of Philadelphia, Pa., finally claimed the top spot in Super Stock, wheeling the LJB Racing Lotus Elise to a 0.365-second victory over his teammate and Solo veteran, Pat Salerno, of New Milford, Conn. Jay Storm, of Willoughby, Ohio, claimed his first F Street Prepared win in a Cometic/Fidanza/Pulstar Subaru Impreza by 0.142-second over the Impreza of rookie Neil Schelly, from Tyngsboro, Mass.Kenny Sorensen聙聶s first victory came in spectacular fashion. Driving a Chevrolet Corvette Z28 in E Street Prepared, Sorensen, of Prince Frederick, Md., beat out the Stranoparts.com Chevrolet Camaro of Jonathan Wolff, from Wheatfield, N.Y., by the slimmest of margins: 0.001-second!The break before the next Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo event is also slim. Hitting the opposite end of the country, the Wendover ProSolo will take place in Utah, August 2 - 3.
