TOPEKA, Kan. (Nov. 21, 2008) – Three driver-navigator pairings mastered the 2008 United States Road Rally Challenge®, held Oct. 31 – Nov. 2, in Tigard, Ore. A three-part event, the 2008 U.S. RoadRally National Championship began with a Halloween-themed GTA Rally entitled Ghouls Gone Wild. On day two, competitors tackled a tricky National Course Rally, entitled The Beaver Cleaver, which contained a combination of numbered route instructions, lettered route instructions and main road determinants. The weekend concluded with The Barlow Trail, a challenging but scenic National Tour Rally that transversed the Willamette Valley and foothills of the Cascade Mountains. After taking overall wins in Beaver Cleaver and The Barlow Trail, Brandon Harer (driver), of Portland, Ore., and Marcus Song (navigator), of Battle Ground, Wash., earned the Equipped Class win. Driving a Toyota Camry, the pair also finished third in Ghouls Gone Wild. Second place went to the Galesville, Wis. team of John A. Emmons (driver) and Lois Van Vleet (navigator), also in a Pontiac. Overall winners in Ghouls Gone Wild, Bob Morseburg (driver), of Seattle, Wash., and Steve Gaddy (navigator), of New Market, Md., were the Limited Class winners. Driving a Toyota, Moreseburg and Gaddy just barely edged Jeanne English (driver), of Hermosa Beach, Calif., and Dave Kolb (navigator), of Old Bridge, N.J., in a Mazda, by two points. The stock class was also a close affair, but taking class wins in both Ghouls Gone Wild and The Barlow Trail allowed Dave Jameson (driver), of Tuscon, Ariz., and Karl Brober (navigator), of Oro Valley, Ariz., to claim the USRRC victory in a Pontiac. Jessica Toney (driver), of San Carlos, Calif., and J. Toney (navigator), of Woodland, Calif., finished second, four points behind in a Porsche. Final points for the 2008 RoadRally season will be announced shortly. For full results from the 2008 U.S. Road Rally Challenge, click here.
