The April 25-27, 2025, Tire Rack SCCA Crows Landing ProSolo tossed everything at the full field of competitors, with clear skies and dry pavement giving way to rain, then back to dry, throughout the weekend.
Hosted by San Francisco Region and featuring twin Tom Exley-designed courses designed to thrill, the weekend offered everything from a legendary Mexican food welcome party, to courses that challenged even the best of autocrossers, to weather that kept competitors on their toes. Unusually cool all three days, rain rolled in overnight Friday, which meant courses were dry for Saturday morning runs – then the rain returned for most of the afternoon. Sunday began wet and chilly, then dried for the end of competition and the Challenges.
It was also a milestone weekend for SCCA Women on Track committee member Shelby Redding, who was the randomly-selected recipient of the Women on Track Driver Development program that she typically helps award. Redding was able to receive coaching from Kathy Van Der Werf, and finished ninth in Ladies Class 3.
So what else happened?
Class Action
The Street category proved tough for anyone to find an easy win. The widest gap at Crows Landing came in D Street, where Alex Muresan finished an incredible 0.538sec ahead of Michael Yanase. James Yom in Super Street (0.312sec margin of victory), Marc Segal in A Street (0.226sec), Sean Velandia over co-driver Maurice Velandia (by 0.096sec) in C Street, and Blake Dewitt in E Street (0.355sec) filled the sheets in the category.
Solo Spec Coupe apparently got the same memo as Street, as Taylour Wargo and Kevin Deitz went head-to-head in their Scions, with Wargo coming out ahead by just 0.170sec.
Apparently, many classes got the memo! More examples? OK! In A Street Touring, Adrian Cardenas bested Arvind Govindaraj by 0.152sec. Street 5’s index saw Danny Gross in an FSP Mazda3 top John Smith’s G Street Volkswagen GTI by just 0.076sec, and…
…well, we’ll just drop in a link to the event results (which wrapped before the Challenges began) for you to get the complete picture.
Challenge On
While Street Tires proved consistent and competitive, it was Steve Lau on race tires who took the Bonus Challenge. He worked his way through the bracket after making the field through the random draw, topping Kendra Mabie in the finals.
The points-paying Challenges remained hot. Jessica Yeung was third in Ladies Class 3, but topped Maggie Elorza, Nicole Wong, and Kristen Acharya to earn the Ladies Challenge victory.
In addition to the points haul toward the Fletcher Cup, Yeung earned the SCCA Women on Track “Pay it Forward” award. Yeung can now invite someone local in her Region to attend a future National Solo event for free.
It was back to street tires for the Super Challenge and the points for the Johnson-Clark Johnson Cup. Segal, the A Street class winner, dumped Yanase and DeWitt in the head-to-head battle before topping Taylour Wargo in the finals.
