Datsun 240Z

Real Red.

Car has racing history beginning in 1979, with ICSCC in the Pacific Northwest. When I picked it up in 1989, it had a bolt in roll bar. After completing a novice race at the end of the 1989 season I stripped the car to the bare shell, built a full cage, and removed nearly 20 years of paint layers. Painted it a light grey on the underside, interior and engine bay, and the outside bright red. A fuel cell replaced the stock gas tank. A halon fire suppression system installed for safety.

Ran the full 1990 season with the Conference, in (Conference) E Production, finishing 3rd in season points. After a few seasons running well, winning a race or three, I began running SCCA Northwest Region events. In 1997 I finished first in the Conference Production E championship.

I also run the car in GT2, for extra track time, and even won a few races in that class due to attrition.

I cut back in the late 1990's to running just a few meets a year. The last time I had it out was at Thunder Hill at a Conference event. A fuel pump quit and the engine ran lean, burning the pistons, and the detonation fractured the crankshaft. The car has been sitting ever since, waiting for me to get it going again.

Engine is a 2.8 liter block, an E31 head with oversized valves, and SU carbs. Lots of work has been done to the block, crank, rods carbs, manifolds and head.

It has been run on slicks, BF Goodrich, Yokohama and Bridgestone R compound radials, and Hoosier bias ply street tires.
